Match Report

After a 25 year league absence, Bodmin Ladies second team took to the pitch, in what can only be described as a monsoon.  Looking light on subs, after the ladies 1s called up midfield powerhouse Erin Murphy and with half of the team, never having played in a league game before, we knew that we had to dig deep and work for each it other.

After patiently sticking numbers on the back of shirts, Captain Claire, gave us our formation and positions and we went out to face the rain.  The whistle blew and within five minutes Spag had slotted one past the Truro keeper.   The spectators cheered, car horns parped and we ran back again to the half way line.  Within a few minutes, Spag scored again from a short corner but Truro pulled one back.

Bodmin went on to score two more before half time; Spag sealing her hat-trick and Sam with a stunning strike from the top of the D (!)  It was starting to become apparent however, that we were starting to tire.  We rejoiced at the welcome relief of the half time whistle.  We gobbled down the obligatory jelly babies and coca cola bottles and resumed the match.

Truro scored on the first attack of the second half, making it 4-2.  Spag maintained the 3 goal gap, immediately after the re-start and the rest of the half was a tale of utter grit and determination to dig deep and defend - led by Emma, Clare, Lesley, Liv, Jack, Lou, Emily and early favourite for Donkey of the Season, Amber, who was unfortunately green carded (by her actual boss at work – good luck with that next shift!)

Frequent logger Kirsten made some outstanding saves and counterattacks just couldn’t be converted by Steph or Spag to relieve the pressure.  The game ended by some questionable twerking by Sam into the opposition to time waste in the corner.  Luckily Alan appreciated it and gave us short to end on.

Donkey of the match:  TBC but contenders include:
Liv and Lesley turning up in wedding outfits and high heels.
Emily for leaving her dry clothes to marinate for an hour in the rain.
Amber for the card.
Claire for dressing the wrong way.
Spag for flailing about on the floor due to jelly-leg-itis

Man:  TBC but contenders include:
Spag for her four goals.
Emma for her stunning defence.
Steph for being an attacking threat.
Kirsten for being resolute in goal.

Team teas report:
Claire was in charge and made 4 loaves worth of egg sandwiches presented in essentially two buckets.  Only one quarter of the sandwiches on offer were consumed, so good luck Sam eating them all week!

Special thanks to our umpires Mike and Alan, especially to Alan who appreciated the twerking!
